Kathy Griffin – Her Religion

Kathy has stated several times that she is a non-believer in any religion, which makes her an atheist.

“In America, they’ll pretty much shoot you for saying that you’re an atheist so I’m just trying to live another day. But the stigma of not being religious in this country is actually pretty frightening. It’s not like atheists start wars,” she once commented.

When Griffin won an Emmy in 2007, she accepted the award by stating, “Suck it Jesus. This award is my god now.” This earned her the ire of some religious people. Griffin had this to say about her sometimes abrasive sense of humor:

“It’s fun to offend people but I also enjoy offending entire religious groups. I know that I have pissed off a lot of Christians … I’d really like to piss off some Muslims and some Jews as well. And I love going after Scientology because they have the least sense of humour out of all of them.”

Kathy Griffin – On Homosexual Rights

Griffin is a vocal proponent of gay marriage. She devoted a 2009 episode of her Bravo reality show to California’s decision to allow gay marriage and has protested for gay rights on several occasions.

“Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a lot of gay friends and in high school, I was just that girl who went to the prom with a gay guy,” Kathy said. “I find that gay audiences are great because they’re so open-minded.”
