6 Most Expensive Wines Of All Time

Old is Gold.

With the earth aging forward and the finite resources meeting an inevitable end, the volume of old wine is also decreasing. Truly sad news for wine aficionados! The limited-edition old wine costs a staggering half a million.

If I tell you that, unlike other assets, these wines earn you more profit if they get older. Sounds preposterous? Well, that is right as a fifty-year-old barrel-aged wine will win you a greater deal at auction than a twenty-year-old wine.

6 Expensive Wines in the World

This article tells about the 6 most expensive wines ever prepared and notices the fact that the wines with exuberant prices have been gleaned in vintages for several years.

6. Ampoule from Penfolds Wine – 168,000 USD

The origin of Penfold wines is as old as 1844. This Australian wine-making company unveiled this special limited-edition run of 12 bottles of Ampoule wines.

This wine comes in a unique design for which four professionals were hired for making a glass sculpture, metal detailing, manufacturing a cabinet for suspension of the ampoule into it, and a scientific-grade ampoule. These artisans were advised to design to reflect the South Australian heritage.

5. Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck Wine – 275,000 USD

Ever heard of cellaring at a shipwreck?

So basically what happened was, in 1997, a wreck search was done for cargo exploration. However, it turned out that the wreck was loaded with Heidsieck wines of 1907. A fortune in disguise!

Later, the 2000 bottles were auctioned at $3 Million by Caviar House. Then the Ritz-Carlton managed to buy approximately twelve bottles of the Heidsieck wines and wanted to sell them at $35,000.

Who can resist an old wine ranging as back as 1907? During the auction, a Russian elite bid the bottle at a staggering 275,000 USD and that’s how it became the then-most expensive wine.

This century-old mature wine is spectacular in its taste, having touches of roasted oysters, graham crackers, caramelized bananas, and a salty twinge at the end.

4. Château Cheval Blanc 1947 Wine – 305,000 USD

“The best Bordeaux ever made.”

The vintage of 1947 was quite hot and the crop at the vineyard was quite generous, which could have been destroyed due to weather conditions.

Several château runners favored the traditional idea of adding ice to decrease the fermentation, though it would result in a greater volume of alcohol in the wine. It can be referred to as a miracle for the company, as the wine was not fully fermented and had left the sugar remarks. For the taste details- the wine is hard and thick with a 14.4 percent of alcohol concentration.

3. Jeroboam of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1945 Wine – 310,000 USD

In an array of indistinguishable bottles of wine, you will be able to catch Mouton-Rothschild’s 1945 wine as it symbolizes the capital ‘V’. This notable ‘V’ reflects the end of World War II; the days of this wine’s release in the market.

This wine and its fragrance are well-recognized by wine aficionados as the blend of cinnamon, ginger, eucalyptus, and the surge of spiciness permeate every sip. The reason behind this is the perfect weather conditions during the vintage of 1945 and the perfectly-ripe grapes led to a 15 percent of alcohol concentration, which made it an exotic drink.

2.  Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 Wine – 500,000 USD

Gleaned in the French Oak barrels in Napa Valley and being prepared by winemaker Heidi Barrett, this is truly one of the most elusive additions of Screaming Eagle.

Its excellence is reflected by the fact that wine advocate Robert Marker gave it 99-points. The limited-edition run of this Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 had 24 bottles. This purple opaque wine stands out due to its rich and strong flavor of sweet-creamy blackcurrant and toasty oak that permeates every sip.

So if you are planning to have this spectacular wine, keep in mind that you will have to wait for months as the admirers’ list for this wine is a thousand-name long!

1. 1945 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Wine – 558,000 USD

This is one of the rarest wines to ever exist as it is a vintage unicorn wine.

The Romanée-Conti vineyard is one-of-its-kind due to the production of white wines and seven fabled red wines. With hot weather, followed by frost and hail a long run of the wine production was not possible so it is also a limited edition run of 600 bottles.

The exotic wine is dark, deep, and rich in flavor. There is a fine touch of oriental spice and black truffles.
